Hoewel 'Speak of the Devil' een album van Ozzy Osbourne is, staan er alleen nummers van zijn tijd bij Black Sabbath op. Dit is waarschijnlijk te wijten aan de tragische dood van het uitzonderlijke talent Randy Rhoads, de gitarist van Ozzy Osbourne. Hij stierf slechts enkele maanden daarvoor in een vliegtuigongeluk. In plaats van het bijna voltooide live album met Rhoads op gitaar uit te brengen, bracht Ozzy Osbourne aanvankelijk 'Speak of the Devil' uit met klassieke Black Sabbath-nummers zoals 'War Pigs', 'Paranoid' en 'Symptom of the Universe'.
